a 1 , a 2 , a 3 , …. are in G.P.
∴ log a 1 , log a 2 , log a 3 ,…..are in A.P.
log a n , log a n+1 , log a n+2 are in A.P.
∴ log a n + log a n+2 = 2 log a n+1
Similarly, log a n+3 + log a n+5 = 2 log a n+4
and log a n+6 + log a n+8 = 2 log a n+7
∴ Operating C 2 → C 2 – 
(C 1 + C 3 ), the given determinant in equal to 
= 0.
